Paisiyeva of Bulgaria nonetheless made a strong showing by
finishing seventh all-around.
Paisiyeva, a native of Sofia, enjoys an impressive coaching
pedigree. She is a product of the "Iliana" Rhythmic Club,
established by 1980 European champion Iliana Rayeva at the famous
Levski sports complex. Currently Paisiyeva is coached by Stela
Salapatyska, formerly a top gymnast herself in the 1990s.
Along with fellow newcomer Simona
Peycheva, Paisiyeva is helping to return Bulgaria to the
spotlight in rhythmic gymnastics. Bulgaria earned a fourth place
finish at the recent World Championships, their best result in the
past few years.
